Coach Training

I’ve prepared this page for people interested in training and certification as an Integrative Nutrition health Coach.

It’s a wonderful career option for people who get satisfaction from helping others to build better lives.

— Coach Maria Theron

Health Coaching is an exciting new profession that is exploding around the world.

The profession started when Joshua Rosenthal opened IIN – the Institute for Integrative Nutrition – in New York City 1992.

IIN quickly grew into the largest nutrition school in the world with more than 100,000 students and graduates in over 150 countries

The World Needs Health Coaches

We’re in the middle of a global health care crisis:

  • Nearly 30% of the world’s population is obese or overweight
  • 88% of doctor visits do not include nutrition counseling
  • 70% of deaths are caused by chronic illness each year
  • 1 in 3 adults have high blood pressure
  • Only 3% of healthcare funding is spent on disease prevention

A Holistic Lifestyle Approach

The narrow focus approach adopted by the healthcare industry waits for people to develop medical problems before treatment.

This does not promote healthy nutrition and lifestyle that could prevent perhaps more than half the medical problems we experience today.

The holistic approach adopted by the health coaching profession works with clients to find and identify health issues while they are still minor problems and easy to resolve, rather than waiting for them to develop into difficult to treat health crises.

Clearly there is a major role to play by the health coaching industry in improving global health.

Where do Health Coaches Work?

Many, like Maria Theron, work in private practice providing service in-person and remotely to clients, executives, and celebrities Venus Williams and Ivanka Trump who employ health coaches.

You’ll increasingly find health coaches in doctor’s practices, wellness centers, gyms, spas, yoga studios, schools, private practice, natural food stores and more.

Large companies are starting to employ health coaches to consult on general health and nutrition issues, and to provide service to their management and staff.

Many health coaches go on to write books, create products, open restaurants, teach, and start their own businesses.

Study and Qualification

Maria Theron studied and gained professional certification at IIN – the Institute for Integrative Nutrition – the world’s largest and most prestigious health coach training and certification school in the world.
